Sherwood Rocks
Welcome to familiarize yourself with youth culture in Kerava during the 1970s, 80s and 90s! Sherwood, Kerava’s nickname, was first used in the 1970s, when the city’s Swedish name Kervo was altered into English in the local youth slang inspired by American culture. From the late 1970s to the mid-1990s, Kerava was a forerunner in music and youth culture. Sherwood Rocks is a tribute to this era and its communal spirit.
The material for this page was collected in 2020-2021 in a research project, that documented these past decades on local youth's perspective. Their stories, objects and pictures tell about a city where the youth took actively part on shaping a culture of their own.
